Each year a new group of kids will tryout for the first time. With that usually comes a lot of questions from parents and kids about what to expect for their first tryout. This can make kids more nervous than they need to be and so we made this brief video to help explain and show kids what to expect.
In general the tryout process goes like this...
Arrive at TLL 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. For a 9:00am start time you would want to be checking in around 8:45am to get situated and know what field you're on.
First drill: Fly balls
Kids will get around 3-4 fly balls in the outfield delivered by a machine or coach. If your child is not ready to catch fly balls it's fine for them to let the ball drop and pick it up off the ground.
Second drill: Ground balls
Kids will move to the shortstop position and receive 3-4 ground balls that they will field and deliver to first base
Third drill: Pitching
Gets will pitch 5 balls
Fourth drill: Hitting and running
Kids will get 5 pitches to hit. On the last pitch whether they hit the ball or not they will run around the bases as fast as they can.
After hitting and running kids are free to go. From checkin to completion tryouts will last about an hour.
